Secreted by the pituitary gland, Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is considered the “master” hormone because it regulates most other glands, organs and metabolic functions in the body. Scientific evidence suggests that the progressive decline in HGH production, that starts for most people in their 30’s, may be one of the root causes of the physical and metabolic deterioration that comes with aging. Studies have also indicated that the effects of aging can be mitigated with exogenous HGH therapy. Many people who would like to look and feel younger, however, don’t like the idea of taking synthetic hormones. Fortunately, there are several natural, food-based compounds that can help provide nutritional support for the healthy and continuing function of the endocrine system.
These substances include the amino acid derivatives GABA (Gamma-aminobutyric acid), and
L-Dopa (L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine). Several legumes are naturally rich in L-dopa, notably Broad Beans (Vicia faba major). The amino acid L-Glutamine has been shown to help support HGH levels in the body. As well, it is a precursor to Glutamic Acid, and the body can combine Glutamic Acid and Vitamin B6 to form GABA. The amino acids L-Ornithine, L-Glycine, and L-Arginine, the latter particularly when combined with L-Lysine, help provide nutritional support for HGH levels.
